Why did the Boston Tea Party happen?

Parliament passed the Tea Act which helped the East India Company avoid being bankrupt. The company could import and sell tea at a low price, lower than smuggled tea. But the colonists had to pay the tax. the British figured Americans would pay the tax if the tea was low. But each time a ship came in, colonists had to pay the taxes within 20 days.
